I have found users would prefer to adjust the volume on the badges with the top & bottom button as they do with cell phones when not in a conversation. For users to bring up the menu and finding the volume selection on the badge is frustrating - as they are used to how cell phones volumes adjust.

It seems more useful for users to know they can would access the menu system by the middle menu button for other less used menu items.
