Cisco Voice Gateways when shut down will stop taking calls then wait for calls to end, then will shut down. Vocera Gateways should be designed to do the same. This would improve the users experience by not dropping calls in progress and improve Information Services chances of requesting maintenance and upgrade windows. Less impact to users.
If this is possible to do that is fine. But if not, this is why we have PLANNED downtime and/or provide information about potential impacts to users during maintenance. Problem is that users are always on their phones so hard to wait for that moment when it's not being used.
